Deigned by Tony Castro, the 1720 Sportsboat has been thrilling sailors since 1994 with its unique combination of affordability, safety and speed. Over 100 1720s have been built, and have active fleets in Ireland, the UK, the Netherlands and elsewhere
The concept of the 1720 Sportsboat arose as a result of the demise in handicapped rating systems, as a basis for providing quality club level and International keelboat racing. The original idea was conceived by a group of committed racing members of the Royal Cork Yacht Club, on the South Coast of Ireland. The club was founded in 1720 and as such is the oldest Yacht Club in the world. The boat took the name 1720 from the clubs. year of foundation.

Ropedock Atara are 1720 Irish Champions for 2024
There were plenty of thrills, spills and mighty craic at the fantastic 1720 Irish Championships in Baltimore in June.
Ropedock Atara were crowned Irish Champions, but everyone was a winner at a hugely successful event.
